# How Kanso Labs works

> The three principles every Kanso Labs repository follows.

## Shared documentation lives once

The code of conduct, contributing guide, security policy and issue templates are served from one repository, [kanso-labs/.github](https://github.com/kanso-labs/.github), to every other. A repository carrying its own copy has overridden the default on purpose, and says why.

The same rule shapes this site. A guide is written here once, and the pages that already exist elsewhere, such as each component's Storybook page or a Home Assistant application's own documentation, are linked rather than copied.

## Written for coding agents as well as people

`AGENTS.md` is the fullest reference in every repository: the conventions, the reasoning behind them, and the traps that have already caught someone. It is worth reading even if you never run an agent.

These guides cover what a consumer of a project needs. When you are changing the project itself, its `AGENTS.md` is the place to start.

## Nothing is pinned loosely

Dependencies are exact versions, actions are exact tags, and language runtimes are fully specified in `.tool-versions`. Renovate opens every bump.
