# Kanso UI Core

> The design data both Kanso UI libraries share: tokens, glyph paths and demo schemes.

`@kanso-labs/kanso-ui-core` is the design data the two component libraries share. [Kanso UI](/kanso-ui/web/introduction.md) draws it on the web and [Kanso UI for React Native](/kanso-ui/react-native/introduction.md) on iOS and Android.

The package is **data and types only**. It renders nothing, imports no React and relies on no platform, so a browser bundle, Metro and Node can all load it.

> [!NOTE]
>
> You do not install it in an app. Each library takes it as a pinned development dependency and bundles what it reads into its own `dist`, so an app installs `@kanso-labs/kanso-ui` or `@kanso-labs/react-native-kanso-ui` and never this. It is useful directly when you build tooling of your own around the tokens.

## What it publishes

| Import | What it is |
| - | - |
| `@kanso-labs/kanso-ui-core` | `light` and `dark`, every `--kui-*` property at its value in each scheme; `breakpoints`, the window size classes; the `KuiTheme` type |
| `@kanso-labs/kanso-ui-core/glyphs` | The path data of the glyphs both libraries draw inside their controls, and the 24-unit `gridSize` |
| `@kanso-labs/kanso-ui-core/themes` | `demoThemes`, the seven demo schemes both Storybooks render |
| `@kanso-labs/kanso-ui-core/tokens.css` | The `--kui-*` custom properties at their defaults, with the dark colours under `prefers-color-scheme: dark` |
| `@kanso-labs/kanso-ui-core/tokens.json` | The design tokens themselves, in the W3C Design Tokens format |
